Health Education
  • Malawi has one of the highest national HIV prevalence rates in the world. There are currently 930,000 Malawians living with HIV or AIDS; this equates to 11% of the population aged 15-49.
  • So, because HIV & AIDS is such a devastating problem here, Temwa's health education programmes have focused on HIV & AIDS education. So far, our diverse range of programmes have targeted many different groups within the communities of northern Malawi.

    Skills Development

Temwa has run a series of skills training courses for local people which aim to given them the skills they need to find employment. This also makes a positive contribution to lives of their families and communities.

    Agriculture and Forestry

So far, our agriculture and forestry programmes have consisted of several small-scale projects.

These are aimed at involving and educating the local community about the range of crops they can grow to contribute to a more nutritional diet. We have also started a budding community tree nursery and are currently undertaking some long-term research to inform the direction of our future projects.

    Schools Support

Temwa's schools support projects have taken many forms including:

    • The building of a community library and primary school block
    • The starting of a scholarship programme to help pupils through secondary school
    • The provision of much-needed educational materials

We have also started a Temwa Schools Magazine project in the UK. This will help to educate young British people about the problems faced in Africa and help facilitate them in making a positive contribution through activities such as fundraising and twinning with Malawian schools.
