On Saturday 1 July, Temwa teamed up with Monster Piece, Blowpop, Full Cycle, Hustler, Rukus, Aerosolics, Go Go Fandango and Dub From Atlantis to put on one of the best shows in Bristol over the summer! It was a fantastic night, with all the acts, promoters and organisers giving their time for free. 100% of the profit made went directly to Temwa. The line-up included Babyhead, Rodney P & Skitz, Krust & Die, Rob Smith & Kelz, The Scrub, I am the Mighty Jungulator and the Blowpop DJs - and that was just in the main room! In the back room, we had a reggae music marathon with Dub From Atlantis at the helm and many special guests including the DFA residents, Positive Dub Vibration Sound System, Kama Dread and Addis, to name but a few! Go Go Fandango held court upstairs, providing their usual variety of cabaret mayhem: Dubious, Dubrovnik and Eva Way were just some of the acts involved. We are proud to say the event was a huge success! Despite England being knocked out of the football World Cup by Portugal earlier in the day, the club had a great turn out. There was a brilliant crowd, a great atmosphere and Temwas raised over £4,200! It was also a great opportunity to promote Temwa’s new name (we had recently changed the charity’s name from Temwenani) and to create more awareness for the organisation, as well as to make people aware of what our objectives are in Malawi. Aerosolics kindly donated two pairs of tickets to the Love Box Weekender in London, which were raffelled off on the night and raised £100. Many thanks to them. Once again, we’d like to say a massive ‘thank you’ to all the people involved that helped organise this event, that played at the event, and to all you lovely people who came along and turned up – we wouldn’t have raised the money and had such a good party without you all. The event was so successful we are organising another one just like it on Saturday 7 October, again at the Academy.
