The Moulin Rouge Ball 2011

fundraising_crop2Flamboyant can-can dancers in sparkling sequins... a boogie-woogie swing band and a comedy compère... are just some of the highlights from Saturday night's annual gala dinner kindly organised by CVS – one of Temwa's key supporters.

The event was hosted by Leicester's Marriott Hotel and commenced with a pink champagne reception. Jo Hook – Temwa's director – then gave a speech to the guests about what has been achieved with the funds raised solely from these events over the last six years.

 A few highlights are:

• Building the first library in the area
• Shipping a 7 ½ tonne truck to Usisya
• Funding for a ground-breaking HIV & AIDS film shown nationwide in Malawi

This was followed by a sumptuous supper including salt cod mousse, roasted chicken and tarte tatin. To raise this year's funds, the compère led an auction where everyone had the chance to bid on prizes such as exotic holidays and football memorabilia.

Guests were then entertained by highly energetic and flexible can-can dancers. Decked out in traditional French frilly knickers, these lithe ladies kept the gentlemen amused with their high kicks and eyebrow raising flexibility.

We all then danced until our feet blistered to The Cat Pack big band – a large troupe of musicians including a trio of saxophones, who were blasting out good time tunes until 1am.

It was a fabulously fun event and we would like to thank CVS for all their hard work.
