Temwa's first fundraising compilation CD is almost ready to hit the streets. Featuring a whole host of amazing acts that have played at our fundraising events over the years, TemPlates Volume 1 is poised to be a sure-fire Bristol hit! Over the years, Temwa has charmed and cajoled Bristolians to promote, perform and attend musical events in aid of their various projects in Malawi. This CD is a slice of Bristol’s musical culture and a testament to the energy and commitment of the local scene to have a positive affect on peoples lives beyond the city limits. Bristol is an amazing, wonderful, musical city, with a very warm and generous heart and many talented citizens. This album proves it. Since Temwa’s conception, so many amazing, predominately Bristol-based acts have played at fundraisers over the years that the idea was conceived to produce the album TemPlates Vol. 1 - not just as a means of raising essential funds for Temwa’s continued work in Malawi, but also to help support the Bristol music scene in any way we can. In our eyes this album represents the brimming diversity and quality within the Bristol scene (including a few valued outsiders!) and we would like to send out a MASSIVE THANK YOU to all those acts that have donated tracks for this album as well as to those others that have played for our fundraisers. Your help has been invaluable and we would not be where we are today without you. The name TemPlates came about for several reasons. Firstly, across Africa, vinyl records are commonly called ‘plates’ and secondly, we hope this album will be a template for many more to come in the future, hence calling it Vol. 1! Selected rare and unreleased tracks, well knows classic and Bristol gems spanning Afrobeat, Hip-Hop, Ska, Drum ‘n’ Bass, Reggae and Dub. Album features: Mankala, Babyhead, Dub From Atlantis, Ben Westbeech, Souljah Clique, DJ Marky, DJ Die & Clipz, Helele, Unforscene, Zen Hussies, Smerins Anti-Social Club, The Scrub, Sir Beans OBE, Peddy D, Dubrovnik & Rob Smith.
