Temwa & PFP film premiere
Wednesday, 23 January 2008 00:00

pfp.jpgThe Purple Field Productions film is now finished and is at the DVD manufacturing company. Read on to find out more about the film itself and the momentous premiere event taking place on 23rd january.

The film is called ‘Banthu Ngati Ise’ (‘People Like Us’ in Tumbuka, the local language spoken in Northern Malawi) and it documents the experience of living with HIV though interviews with three HIV positive people living in Usisya. Temwa was contacted by PFP in 2007 and after much groundwork the PFP crew spent two months in Malawi from September to November filming and editing the film, with post production and final editing being done back in the UK.

The film is aimed at reducing the stigma against those that are HIV positive as well as spreading information about the disease itself including ways of transmission and methods of treatment. Temwa will be using the DVD as an HIV/AIDS awareness tool and expects to get a very positive response as, to the best of our knowledge, this is the first film of its kind to be made in Tumbuka and thus will far better engage people with the messages being transmitted. Temwa also plans to distribute the DVD to other groups throughout Malawi and the UK so that the film can reach a wider audience.

The UK premiere of ‘Banthu Ngati Ise’ will take place on Wed 23rd January at The CUBE cinema, Bristol.
