HIV/AIDS projects underway
Thursday, 12 January 2006 00:00

In conjunction with the NAC – National AIDS Commission, Temwenani is currently running two new projects.

The first project involves the showing of AIDS/HIV-awareness films. Twice weekly, at the community centre in Usisya, film shows are staged to entertain the local community, and before each film commences, an AIDS/HIV educational film is shown. This method is termed ‘edutainment’ by Population Services International (PSI), as it is based on a theory that people learn better when they are having fun.

The second project is the Stepping Stones programme, detailed on the Home page. Essentially, this programme combines AIDS-awareness with the teaching of life skills. In Usisya, eight people will be trained as Stepping Stones facilitators. These people will, in turn, teach the programme to local community groups.
