At the end of March, training for the latest group of peer educators began with 16 young men and women from villages throughout Temwa's Usisya catchment area attending the 10 day course. This training provided these young people with the opportunity to increase their knowledge of sexuality, family planning and communication skills, and equipped them with basic knowledge on interactive drama, sexually reproductive health rights (SRHR), peer education and life skills. These peer educators have since gone back to their communities and held their own training sessions covering more than 145 young people. Attendees and educators love these sessions as they allow them to discuss issues that affect them, in their own environment without interference from adults. More sessions are planned for the coming weeks and months. The most recent BCI training course was held in late April. Led by a facilitator, the group of participants had in-depth discussions on sexual health and HIV in order to give them the knowledge they need to protect themselves from contracting sexually transmitted infections (STI), including HIV. In the coming months more of these community BCI sessions will be held to encompass all areas of Usisya.
