Temwa's HIV/AIDS awareness projects in Usisya are continuing to be very successful. A mobile video session was held recently in Bula village, situated in the mountainous region of Usisya, where we showed our new HIV/AIDS awareness documentary ‘Bantu Ngati Ise' (‘People Like Us') which was produced in collaboration with Purple Field Productions.
The 150 attendees responded well to the session and in the after-show discussion, brought up the issue of mobile VCT (Voluntary Counselling and Testing) services which they'd like to see in their area to encourage more people to get tested as, for many, the hospital is too far a walk.
Another Stepping Stones programme has also taken place. Stepping Stones is a workshop series designed to promote sexual and reproductive health and it has had a very encouraging impact in the areas in which it has been run. Most of Temwa's HIV/AIDS activities now take place outside central Usisya and, in many places, we are the first NGO to have visited the communities in which we have run our various sessions.
