Bottletop

bottletop.jpgBottletop is based on a very simple recipe. They fund projects that have a positive impact on the health and wellbeing of young people worldwide. By fundraising through fashion and music they focus on helping small, dynamic education initiatives, with a particular emphasis on sexual and reproductive health education.

Bottletop’s founder, Cameron Saul, was introduced to Temwa back in 2005 by his friend and Temwa volunteer, Hannah Higginson, now a Temwa trustee. At the time, it just so happened that Cameron was looking for more HIV/AIDS projects for Bottletop to fund. Hannah and Cameron had originally met in 2002 while volunteering in Uganda for Student Partnership Wordwide. Soon after that, while volunteering for VSO in Malawi, Hannah met and became friends with Joanna Hook, Temwa’s co-founder, in Malawi.

Since Bottletop got in contact with Temwa back in 2005, they have been funding our HIV/AIDS projects year on year. These include our ongoing Stepping Stones programme; behavioural change intervention (BCI) through discussion/support groups to encourage safer sex in the community; mobile HIV/AIDS awareness video sessions; and the formation of an Usisya branch of the National Association of People living with HIV and AIDS in Malawi (NAPHAM).

Recently, Bottletop has confirmed their pledge to fund Temwa’s continued HIV & AIDS awareness work until 2010! This work will include peer education training for young people, Stepping Stones for couples, BCI for vulnerable / at risk groups and the carrying out of a knowledge, attitude and practise (KAP) survey. Temwa would like to take this chance to send a heartfelt thanks to Bottletop for their ongoing support, without which we wouldn’t be where we are today. We look forward to many more happy years of fruitful partnership.
