The Trust(NWT) was set up in memory of Nick Webber, who died tragically in a car accident at the age of 28 while working in Malawi as a volunteer lawyer. Following the spirit of the work Nick was doing, NWT aim to help some of the poorest and most marginalised people in Malawi by working to increase access to justice, healthcare and education. Early in 2007, Temwa was contacted by the NWT who offered to work in partnership with us on a schools support and schools scholarship program, to be implemented in Malawi. Shortly after we submitted the proposal, the NWT came back to us and agreed to fund the project. The project includes several elements: the provision of secondary school scholarships to students which will be known as NWT bursaries; the improving of educational facilities of Usisya's primary schools through the provision of educational materials such as workbooks, stationary and calculators; and the building of a new school block, which was finished in February 2008. Temwa are honoured to be working with the NWT and we hope that this project marks the start of a long and productive relationship that will provide lasting benefit for the people of Usisya. |
